Monstrum, Body Cam, Spaceship Earth and Natalie Woods What Remains Behind

Yoon Gyeom is a loyal subject of King Jung Jong of Joseon. He struggles to fight against a monster that threatens King Jung Jong’s life and a group of people trying to depose King Jung Jong.

Monstrum definitely has it’s issues but for the most part it’s a fun monster movie, it does take a bit to get going. But it is worth it by the end, acting is decent, the writing is pretty good and the monster itself is not too bad either. I will say the pacing was a bit of a mess at times and that is definitely going to turn some people away but if you can get passed the that it’s solid enough.

When a routine traffic stop results in the unexplained, grisly death of her colleague, a cop (Mary J. Blige) realizes footage of the incident will play for her eyes only. As the attacks mount, she races to understand the supernatural force behind them.

I’ll give it this…it wasn’t as bad as I expected, however that really does not mean it was good. It follows some very familiar territory that a lot of movies do, Mary J. Blige and Nat Wolff are both pretty decent and are hands down the best thing about the movie. Everything else is just kind of whatever, the writing felt like it was playing way too safe and really did not do anything other then being way too simple for it’s own good. A lot of this movie is also very predictable, the final act is a whole “seen it in better movies” type thing, overall not much really else to say a very below average movie that I guess doesn’t hurt to watch if your curious.

5/10 C

A look at the group of people who built the Biosphere 2, a giant replica of the earth’s ecosystem, in 1991.

I really don’t have a whole lot to say here, the movie sort of speaks for itself. It’s about the Biosphere 2 a self-engineered replica of Earth’s ecosystem and about the eight visionaries experiences who were in it for 2 years. The information that was told in the film was quite interesting, it had some really inspiring music added to it as well. In fact the movie is kind of inspiring in a way it really gives off this feeling of following your dreams which I definitely liked. Filmmaking wise the movie is pretty decently made it keeps the audience interested throughout the film, overall it’s a interesting watch that I would recommend!

7/10 B

Exploring Natalie Wood’s life and career through the unique perspective of her daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, and others who knew her best.

If you are going to make a documentary about Natalie Wood make it about Natalie Wood, the first half of the movie is great and talks about her in great detail. Then for whatever reason the last half of the movie they decided to go on this whole “ Robert Wagner is innocent” rant it sort of turned into propaganda, which is really sad because before that this was a decent watch. As far as filmmaking it’s pretty okay, nothing really too special but nothing bad either. I can’t say that I would recommend this one. The last half of the movie is definitely going to turn people away and rightfully so…

220. The Last Witch Hunter (2015) directed by Breck Eisner : This is a movie that should have not been this bad, how do you mess up Vin Diesel holding a sword this badly?? It was a very forgettable action film that struggled to standout among the crowd.

219. Assassin’s Creed (2016) directed by Justin Kurzel : This is a movie I was actually excited for, it had a promising director and the trailers looked great! Too bad it ended up being a lifeless adaption with a ver confused soundtrack and a movie that had very little substance to it..

203. Wish Upon (2017) directed by John R. Leonetti : Ah yes Leonetti who’s responsible for several terrible terrible films, Wish Upon does have a hilariously bad ending that does save it from being any lower. But it’s still a complete mess of a film that does nothing for the horror genre.

202. Chernobyl Diaries (2012) directed by Bradley Parker

197. The Circle (2017) directed by James Ponsoldt : This movie really should have worked, what this movie suffers from is poor decisions. I mean that by how it was done, the cast is wasted, the movie has one of the laziest endings and it is very poorly written..

196. Little Fockers (2010) directed by Paul Weitz

192. Mirror Mirror (2012) directed by Tarsem Singh

248. Priest (2011) directed by Scott Stewart

247. The Rite (2011) directed by Mikael Hafstrom

246. Mortal Instruments City Of Bones (2013) directed by Harald Zwart : This series deserved so much better than this garbage, back when the YA genre was popular and adaptions would come out nonstop. Mortal Instruments failed to stick with it’s audience.

241. Death House (2018) directed by Harrison Smith : Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments to any horror fan in the 2010s, Death House had been anticipated for awhile…when it finally came out it turned out to be a poorly put together mess, the gore was laughable, the acting and writing are below amateur and oddly enough the movie felt incomplete despite being delayed numerous times..

240. Proud Mary (2018) directed by Babak Najafi : Taraji P. Henson deserves so much better then this…

234. Careful What You Wish For (2015) directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum

233. Honey 3 : Dare To Dance (2016) directed by Bille Woodruff : 2016 was most certainly when the dance movie genre was dead so why this movie came out that year I have no idea, heck the fact there’s three of these movies (the first Honey being the only good one) is just crazy.

232. Nightlight (2015) directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods : An example of interesting concept but piss poor execution,

231. Some Kind Of Hate (2015) directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer

230. Atlantic Rim (2013) directed by Jared Cohen : I tried to avoid putting a lot of these Asylum movies on here because that’s sort of cheating, however this one I find to be the absolute worst, It doesn’t even do a good job of ripping off Pacific Rim. Oh yes and this movie has some of the most ridiculous character decisions ever put to film…

229. Taken 2 (2012) directed by Olivier Megaton : Well Taken 2 has one thing going for it…..It’s not Taken 3!!! No but seriously Taken 2 is almost identical to the first movie, so why even bother?? The editing is garbage, the writing is nowhere near as good as the first movie..It’s such a massive decrease of quality from the first film..

228. Hoodwinked Too Hood Vs Evil (2011) directed by Mike Disa : Speaking of garbage sequels, I know some people are going to be shocked by how low this is on the list. But do not get me wrong this movie is VERY bad, I just did not know this existed until 2016 or so. Plus I really did not care for the first movie so there wasn’t really much for me to say.

227. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015) directed by Steve Pink : Notice how many comedy sequels never work? Well this is one of them…

226. Viral (2016) directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman

225. The Fanatic (2019) directed by Fred Durst : I did a review of this last year if you would like to read it here https://letterboxd.com/jerome1994/film/the-fanatic/

224. Day Of The Dead Bloodline (2017) directed by Hector Hernandez Vicens : A worthless remake that has no reason of existing it’s a typical bad zombie film with the words “Of The Dead” slapped onto it.

223. Puppet Master Axis Termination (2017) directed by Charles Band : This franchise needs to stop..it’s the same exact thing over and over again.

222. Don’t Look in the Basement 2 (2017) Tony Brownrigg : Why?

221. The Dog Lover (2016) directed by Alex Ranarivelo : A film that says Puppy Mills are actually good…and everything you heard is wrong about Puppy Mills….This is nothing but propaganda. I know some people may ask why this isn’t higher, well that’s because the film itself while it indeed has a horrible horrible message, as a film it’s mostly forgettable.

That will be the end of part 1!! See you in the next part!!

Rules for Top 250 Worst Films Of The 2010s!

Hi everyone! As I promised I just finished making my Top 250 Worst Of The 2010s list last week. It took me awhile to finish it for many reasons such as rewatches, movies I missed and much more.

So here’s what the rules are…

1. Movies that I have seen can only appear on the list, so don’t expect a lot of Tyler Perry movies on the list.

2. Each post is going to be 25-50 movies, doing one at a time would be hectic and we would be at this forever.

3. Not every single film is going to have an explanation on why it’s on the list, especially ones that are very low on the list. A lot of films will get an explanation some definitely longer than others. Expect longer explanations when it gets down to the final 50-100.

4. Finally keep in mind this is just my opinion, there is going to be some disagreements here and there, but hey that’s what I love about film.

Also you may notice that certain years are going to have much more movies on the list than others, that’s because of one of two things happened. Either I just couldn’t find many garbage films from that year ( I really did not want to put movies that I felt were just forgettable on a worst list) or the year in general just did not have too many bad movies.

With all that out of the way I hope you enjoy it!! See you when the first post is up (which will be very soon!)

Justice League Dark Apokolips War

Following the decimation of Earth, the Justice League regroups to take on Darkseid and save the remaining survivors.

Justice League Dark Apokolips War is the final DC Animated Universe Movie, which is kind of hard to believe. For years this series has been going on and to see it end is kind of mind blowing, the important question is did it end with a bang? I would say it most definitely did, in terms of quality Dark Apokolips War is one of the best films in the series. Let’s get the basics out of the way, the animation is really strong and matches the mood that this movie is going for. The voice acting is some really great stuff, a lot of the characters are fantastic. One in particular that I really liked was John Constantine who was voiced by Matt Ryan, I thought he stood out among a lot of the characters. What I loved most about this film are two main things, first the action scenes!! They are very detailed and extremely well done with some excellent suspense thrown in as well. The other thing is the kills and gore, without spoiling anything I will say this there are a lot of deaths and it’s pretty crazy to see. But at the same time it’s kind of fascinating and very well done, there’s a ton of emotion and reactions from the character that make the deaths have a meaning. I won’t say anything else because I do not want to spoil this movie, but overall I highly recommend his film! It’s definitely a great way to end the Animated Universe!!

9/10 A

Valley Girl (2020)

Set to a new wave ’80s soundtrack, a pair of young lovers from different backgrounds defy their parents and friends to stay together. A musical adaptation of the 1983 film.

Not going to lie this really surprised me, I completely understand why someone would not like this movie like at all. It’s a remake of a beloved film, however I just couldn’t help but like this one. Anyway first a bit of backstory with this movie, so it was originally supposed to be released in June 2018 however the controversy with Logan Paul happened you know the Suicide Forest video where he filmed a dead body. So it was shelved for two years, anyway let’s talk about the movie. I thought the cast overall was pretty great Jessica Roth being the highlight, she did great with the songs and brought a lot of energy to the movie as well. Now let’s talk about the Elephant in the room Logan Paul, I have to be honest here….he wasn’t that bad? I believe it’s mainly due to him playing the asshole character which fits him pretty well, had it been any other role I think he would have done a terrible job. The songs were overall pretty great, some were definitely better than others, some singing voices could have used a much bigger improvement while others stole the show like Jessica Roth’s who was easily the best out of the bunch. As much as I found this movie to be pretty solid, I do find it to be a very pointless remake. It’s one of those remakes that just kind of happened but it’s not hurting anybody, overall it’s a decent movie. There’s a lot of fun and it definitely has the energy, it’s definitely not as good as the original but that’s to be expected.

7/10 B

Capone (2020)

The 47-year old Al Capone, after 10 years in prison, starts suffering from dementia and comes to be haunted by his violent past.

Josh Trank really screwed up this time (let’s be fair Fantastic Four was heavily done due to studio interference) Capone is one of those movies that should have been good, but somehow it results into a mess that is quite fascinating but at the same time painful. I will be talking about certain scenes because I do feel these need to be pointed out, so first off Tom Hardy as Capone is just horrendous this might just be the worst performance of his career, it feels like he’s trapped and forced against his will to be on set. The movie starts off with Tom Hardy chasing invisible children…that’s pretty much what the rest of the film is, a bunch of scenes that are more bizarre then the last, I do understand that this movie was about Al Capone’s Dementia but oh god this movie does not do it well at all, it comes off very offensive at times…time to name some horrible horrible scenes in this movie, there’s two scenes where Tom Hardy actually poops his pants…I wish I was making that up, a scene where Hardy is fishing and an Alligator steals the fish and then Hardy pulls out a gun, yells at the alligator and then shoots it. Finally there’s this weird as hell fantasy of Capone being told to come on stage by Louie Armstrong. Trust me when I say this the scenes I just described are more bonkers when you actually watch them..as for the rest of the film? The writing is painfully bad, the pacing is slower then a snail and the direction is a complete and total mess. This is the “Gotti” of 2020. Something that is horrendous but must be seen to be believed.

The Wrong Missy (2020)

Tim thinks he’s invited the woman of his dreams on a work retreat to Hawaii, realizing too late he mistakenly texted someone from a nightmare blind date.

What can I honestly say about this movie? I had no idea what the hell this movie was, who it was from and who made it….I decided to check it out after seeing a few bad reviews from it because well if you have been following me for awhile you know I like to torture myself. So I start the movie and……it’s by Happy Madison Productions…heck even the director of this movie previously directed another Happy Madison movie Father Of The Year, so how’s the movie itself? Oh well besides painful and one of the worst things I’ve seen this year not much…the acting is horrendous David Spade looks like he wants to get off set immediately and who can honestly blame him? The writing is terrible, the jokes are just not funny at all. Heck the humor is so predictable, I believe I chuckled once through this entire movie and even then it was sort of a “this is a so dumb” kind of laugh. The movie is very formulaic you have already seen stories like this before but done better, it brings nothing new to the table nothing but pain and torture. The movie itself is annoying as well, with many characters who are super obnoxious and jokes that tend to get annoying as well. I think the best way to describe this movie is that one person who swears they are funny but ends up being annoying instead. That’s the movie if it were a person, overall The Wrong Missy should be avoided at all costs do not make the same mistake I did.

How To Build A Girl, Z, Endings, Beginnings

Johana Morrigan (Beanie Feldstein) is a bright, quirky, 16-year-old who uses her colorful imagination to regularly escape her humdrum life in Wolverhampton and live out her creative fantasies.

Not a whole lot to say here, which is kind of sad to say because I was genuinely looking forward to this movie. Beanie Feldstein is the reason I checked this one out and is pretty much the only reason to check this out. She gives a very solid performance to a movie that’s lacking in several areas, for one thing the movie doesn’t do enough to separate itself from a lot of other coming of age movies. It just does what many other films have done except nowhere near as good. The humor rarely ever lands, I hate to use this word but the humor often just feels very “cringy” like it’s trying way too hard to be relatable but it’s not. The acting from everyone else is just kind of whatever and nothing to write home about, I will say one thing that the movie isn’t necessarily bad it’s just a very below average coming of age film that doesn’t add anything new to the genre.

5/10 C

A family find themselves terrorized by their eight-year-old son’s imaginary friend.

When I saw this movie was directed by the guy who did “Still/Born” I was a bit curious because I did like “Still/Born” well enough. However “Z” is very formulaic that really does not offer anything new to the genre. The CGI towards the end of the film really took me out of it mainly due to how goofy it looked, acting wise it’s just okay nothing really special at all and really not worth mentioning, the same can be said for the writing. It’s a very below average horror movie that might be good to put on in the background otherwise I don’t recommend it.

5/10 C

A 30-something woman navigating through love and heartbreak over the course of one year. During that time, she will unlock the secrets to her life in a sudden turn of events and in the most surprising of places.

Can somebody tell Drake Doremus to stop making the same exact film so many times? Thank you in advance!! If you don’t recognize Doremus’s name he directed Zoe, Newness, Equals, Breathe In, Like Crazy and a few others. My main issue with “Endings Beginnings” is as I said before the exact same thing as some of his previous movies. Like this movie is pretty much some of the movies I just mentioned but the plot is tweaked a bit and a few things are switched around. Shailene Woodley is in this movie for some reason, she does a decent job and works what she’s given. The same can be said for Sebastian Stan yes that’s right Bucky is in this movie for whatever reason, all joking aside he does a decent job it’s just the writing is so uninspired. Then there’s Jamie Doran who I just do not like and he’s not any better here. It feels like he woke up one day and said “I’m not going to bother” which let’s be fair nobody would…anyway the writing as I said before is uninspired it’s the same exact thing as some of Doremus’s other films. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Doremus has a copypasta of the scripts he uses and just copy and pastes them and calls it a day. But seriously as much as I am criticizing Doremus I do like some of his movies Newness is pretty decent, I kind of liked Zoe It’s just such a shame to see him make the same thing over and over again. As much as I talked how much I didn’t like this movie, it’s not necessarily “bad” it’s actually decently made, has decent cinematography and is overall harmless just not something I would ever tell someone to watch. Overall if you have seen any of Doremus’s movies you have already seen this one, I can’t give this a recommendation.

5/10 C

Bad Education (2020)

The beloved superintendent of New York’s Roslyn school district and his staff, friends and relatives become the prime suspects in the unfolding of the single largest public school embezzlement scandal in American history.

Cory Finley is back who previous directed Throughbreds (which is incredible) so expectations were high for Bad Education….which they were surpassed!! Cory Finley really nailed it, the direction from Finley in this movie is raw and just downright fantastic. He brings a lot of realistic elements to the table which is smart because this is based off of a true story (I’ll explain a bit more in just a second) so capturing just that is VERY important, so about the true story..it’s based off of the largest public school embezzlement in American History. Which is Roslyn High School in Long Island NY (which I know exactly where that is) anyway let’s talk more about the movie itself, what really makes this movie fantastic are two people Hugh Jackman and Alison Janney both of them really nail their roles! The both feel very real and are just incredible to watch, they have so much passion put into their roles and bring so much as well! Speaking of which the acting all around is fantastic as well as the writing which is incredibly well written, finally as I said before Finley really does a fantastic job of making this realistic as possible we get tons of moments showing the actors and actresses having heavy conversations and show just how realistic the writing is! Overall this is one I highly recommend and is definitely one of the standouts so far this year!
