What’s been going on with the Worst and Best films of the decade lists?

Let me be clear and say they are still happening….just not in the way people think. For one thing each movie WILL NOT be receiving their own individual post, that would take way too long and would become tiring. What’s most likely gonna end up happening is each post is going to have about 10-25 per post with a few comments thrown in, the top 50 will most likely get longer comments.

The best list will definitely take much longer then the worst list but I’m hoping it will be worth it in the end!

With that said I do have some reviews coming either today or tomorrow so sit tight!

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (10-1)

Well folks this is the last part of my best list, I’m sorry some parts took longer to come out then others. But hey it’s finished now, anyway here are the movies that made the top 10!

10.

Noah Baumbach creates perhaps the best representation of two people going through a divorce. The movie is extremely raw and shows the divorce in a very realistic way. We all know the argument scene which is hands down one of the best scenes in a movie in 2019. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson are absolutely incredible in their roles, both give very powerful performances and both show the emotions and issues of someone who is going through a divorce. The writing is brilliant, the filming is beautifully done and the movie is just incredible all around.

9.

The Farewell is one of the few movies where I cried my eyes out, the performances from everyone all around are fantastic especially Awkwafina and Zhao Shuzhen both incredibly talented. Lulu Wang masters the direction and creates several scenes that really hit me in the gut. The movie is very raw and the writing feels natural and well thought out, lastly the movie is not only sad but it’s funny with several clever jokes. Lastly the whole movie is very relatable it’s one of the most beautiful films to come out of 2019!

8.

Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale is a movie that I’m shocked got away with so much, the movie is very disturbing but in the best ways. It’s one of those disturbing movies that isn’t for shock value instead it has a really strong plot and a very suspenseful atmosphere that keep you into the movie. The movie itself is very haunting and incredibly well done, from the cinematography to the acting and writing everything about this film is top notch. Lastly Aisling Franciosi’s performance is one of the best of 2019, it’s raw, powerful and really well acted. It’s a shame this movie didn’t get a huge theater release so if you haven’t seen it please do so!

7.

I said in my review Gasper Noe’s Climax might be one of the best horror movies of the 2010s and I still stand by what I said, Gasper Noe’s career has been fantastic so far Irreversible, Enter The Void, I Stand Alone and a few others! Climax is one of those movies where it starts off not very disturbing but then towards the end of the second act things start to escalate and become nightmarish. Which the build up is just magnificent, when people were saying “this movie is Suspiria from hell” they were not joking, from the characters being disturbed, to the cinematography and atmosphere this movie does everything right that a horror movie should do!

6.

Terrance Malick…What is there to say about him that hasn’t already been said? A Hidden Life is a movie that always seems to be missing when it comes to best films of 2019. Which I’m not understanding why, it’s a very deep film that may seem straightforward on the surface. But it is a lot more then that it starts asking a ton of questions that are quite honestly reasonable to ask, especially when you take into account what the movie is about. Acting, writing, cinematography and direction wise the movie is fantastic. August Diehl and Valerie Pachner are both incredible in their roles, one thing I almost forgot the movie is very depressing but rightfully so! Overall a masterpiece of a film!!!

5.

Note I’m going to take bits and pieces from my review simply because this movie is hard to talk about without spoiling and I don’t want to do that!!
Ari Aster already made a name for himself in 2018 with Hereditary and now Midsommar. Which like Climax is what a true disturbing film is like. First off Ari Aster once again does a fantastic job, his direction really feels unique and captures this disturbing yet comedic atmosphere. The movie is cleverly written with lots of eerie scenes that really get under your skin, the performances are well done but the one who stands out is Florence Pugh. She shows every kind of emotional and we slowly see her go through all types of situations and events that effect her, part of that is the camerawork like Hereditary this film has incredible camerawork that really gives off this disturbing atmosphere and a sense of dread. It shows how the characters are reacting to certain events in great detail, the writing is a work of art it’s creative, smart and very unique. It also has this natural feel to it and really dives into certain scenes extremely well. It’s one of those disturbing movies that shows off it’s atmosphere right from the beginning and it stays that way for the entire film, even with the comedic moments I couldn’t help but feel like another certain situation was going to come out of nowhere. I can’t wait to see what Ari Aster does next!

4.

Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (best picture winner!) is quite an incredible film with a very talented director who’s done several fantastic films over the years (Okja, Snowpiercer, The Host and several others) to keep this short, this movie is a masterpiece. From the acting that feels very realistic, the writing that’s just masterfully written, to the direction that is some of the best of the 2010s and really shows how amazing Bong Joon Ho is as a director. The movie combined with its setting and atmosphere offers a very suspenseful experience that can honestly not be copied, it’s unique in every sense of the word!

3.

Alma Har’el’s Honey Boy was the last 2019 release I watched and I definitely saved one of the best for last. As I said in my review this is one of the saddest and most depressing movies I’ve seen in a very long time, Shia LaBeouf is just incredible his performance is absolutely well done, also as I said In the review the movie is loosely based on LaBeouf’s childhood and his relationship with his father. With that added in it just makes this movie 10x more powerful in every single way possible, the way the movie tackles very heavy subjects such as mental health and abuse is breathtaking, there’s not many films out there that tackle those subjects anywhere near as well as this film does. The writing is beautiful written, the direction from Alma Har’el is truly beautiful and the movie as a whole is magnificent!

2.

I’m not going to lie here 3-1 I was having a very tough time deciding where to put each movie! But anyway The Safdie Brothers who previously did Good Time take what made Good Time so fantastic and kicked it up 20 more notches with Uncut Gems. What can be said that hasn’t already been said? Adam Sandler is fantastic, the movie is quite hilarious and has a ton of memorable moments that area already being quoted. The direction is some of the best of 2019, the build up to each scene and the pay off is spot on! The movie’s atmosphere has its own personality which is quite great, lastly the cinematography is incredible as well as the insane final act!

1.

Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse is one of the first movies I think of when someone says the word “horror” it does everything right what a good horror movie should do. Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe are both fantastic they play very questionable individuals and we get to see all of that due to the very clever writing and we also get to see how bizarre this movie gets which trust me it gets insane. The movie brings back this 1920s and 1930s horror movie feel which is something I’ve wanted for a very long time now. The film is disturbing with tons of imagery and with a very haunting atmosphere combined with the cinematography and score it creates a unique experience to the viewer! Which is why The Lighthouse is my pick of the best film of 2019!

Well that’s it for my best list! I hope you guys enjoyed the list!

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (20-11)

We are at the final 20 films on the list, which is the movies I really had a tough decision placing because 2019 was a pretty fantastic year. Let me just say that this is one of my favorite top 20s I’ve had since I began reviewing movies in 2013.

20.

To See Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett go from Devil’s Due to Southbound and then to Ready Or Not is truly incredible. Sure this movie might feel like a lot like You’re Next but what Ready Or Not takes a lot of elements from You’re Next and makes it its own. The movie has genuinely funny dialogue and some very thrilling moments as well, which is what really makes this movie work. It balances the two out plus when you add the genuinely great acting, writing and directing it’s one hell of a good time. Definitely one of the best times I had with a movie in 2019

19.

Greta Gerwig has only directed two films in her career so far and she’s really showing how much talent she has. Little Women really turns it up to eleven, what mostly gets this movie in the top 20 is mostly the direction and acting. The casting choices were absolutely brilliant especially Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh, the direction from Greta Gerwig is flawless. Greta Gerwig has shown that she knows how to insert tons of emotion in a film, she also keeps it down to reality with the very raw writing. Lastly there’s the costume design that really convinces you it’s taking place at the time of the movie. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Greta Gerwig does next.

18.

Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell….this is a movie I wish got so much more spotlight. For starters Elizabeth Moss gives a fantastic performance its both realistic and quite powerful as well. It only shows how well done Elizabeth Moss and her character are during the second half of the movie which is quite honestly some of the most powerful scenes in the 2010s. Between the acting, writing, direction it’s honestly some heartbreaking and powerful stuff to watch. If you haven’t had the chance to watch this movie yet please do so when you can!

17.

I’m going to keep this remotely short, Mike Flanagan is a director I’ve always loved. He’s shown time and time again that he really knows how to direct a horror film. Doctor Sleep could have easily gone wrong, but thanks to Flanagan’s direction it really turns out to be one of the best Stephen King adaptions in years. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and Kyliegh Curran all do a fantastic job. Especially Ferguson who really gets into character and comes off genuinely creepy. I feel what separates this movie from a lot of others is it feels like an old soul, think The Shining but has new technology everything else is the same. The cinematography is beautiful, the score is beautiful what else can I say?

16.

Rian Johnson’s Knives Out…there’s tons to say about this one, but I’ll keep it simple! First off Johnson knows how to make a film, he gets the audience to expect one thing only to surprise you with something completely different that twists the movie. The performances from everyone all around is really great, the writing is written cleverly and has some hilarious moments. It’s the type of movie that throws a lot of twists at you and keeps you guessing during the mystery.

15.

Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart is going to go down as a coming of age classic, the movie takes Lady Bird and Super Bad…combines them and makes it it’s own. Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein both have incredible chemistry both of them are hilarious and the acting from both is top notch. The character development, writing, jokes are all seriously well done. But what makes this truly special is the balance between the humor and character development, plus the movie has a lot of heart as well. The humor itself is perfect, I still stand by to what I said in my review how I haven’t laughed this much in awhile from a movie!

14.

Claire Denis’s High Life came out at a time when 2019 was really struggling when it came to movies (outside a of a select few such as Her Smell, Us, Beach Bum and a few others) Robert Pattinson completely steals the show he’s fantastic, as well as Mia Goth and the rest of the cast. The writing was perfect it felt natural but at the same time meaningful, the cinematography was outstanding and the atmosphere was thrilling and shows how beautiful the film is. The movie has some disturbing imagery that caught me off guard Claire Denis (the director) said “it’s important how people are feeling even when they are brutal” which the film does just that. It explores the characters, it shows the emotions and journey, it shows the suffering some of the characters are going through. If you haven’t checked this one out yet please do so.

13.

James Gray’s (Lost city Of Z) Ad Astra is truly something special, it’s both haunting and mesmerizing. The movie tackles so many themes such as the relationship between father and son, Brad Pitt gives an incredible performance, the cinematography is outstanding and captivating. Lastly there’s James Gray’s direction which is quite honestly some of the best of 2019, I know it seem like I said very little that’s because this movie is very hard to go depth without spoiling which I just don’t want to do!

12.

Martin Scorsese doesn’t need an introduction the guy is a genius, his direction is masterful in this movie! Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are all fantastic in their roles, the music captures the time period really well, the third act shows an incredible amount of talent, it shows all the types of emotions, situations and regrettable decisions. Between the filming, editing and cinematography and so on it’s incredibly well done!

11.

Celine Sciamma’s Portrait Of A Lady On Fire…what can I honestly say that hasn’t been said? First off almost immediately when this movie begins it feels very real, it becomes more and more real as it goes on. There are some certain scenes in this movie that are hypnotic they really capture you and make you really think about each scene of the movie. Having a scene where Noemie Merlant and Adele Haenel just stare at each other on the beach for a solid minute or two feels VERY real it’s one of those things where you just can’t describe. The cinematography is some of the best of 2019 the film is just gorgeous every single shot in this movie has something to compliment about the film, the acting and writing are both excellent and feel very raw, I said this earlier in the list about Last Black Man In San Francisco but Portrait Of A Lady On Fire feels like a painting. A beautiful one the type of painting you would just keep looking at for hours and hours on end, it’s really remarkable on how beautiful this film is.

And that will be it for this part! Stay tuned for the final part of my best list which will be 10-1

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (29-21)

We are about to enter the top 20, so this list just got a lot harder. Trust me when I say making some decisions with this list was not easy at all!

29.

Toy Story 4 was a movie I was very skeptical about, mostly because just how incredible the 3rd movie was and how much of a good job it did wrapping up the story. But this movie really did impress me quite a lot, Josh Cooley did a fantastic job with this film, but what really makes this film great is Woody. I said this in my review and I’ll say it again here Woody is one of the best characters who had some of the best character development throughout a franchise in film history. This movie only proves that statement because of how well he’s done in this one, some of the new characters like Forky are very cleverly written. Of course the movie has it’s emotional moments, lastly throughout this franchise this series has made you want to connect with the toys and have the toys be relatable. Sure there toys but they have a lot of human aspects to them, the movie explores several different themes as well. Toy Story 4 was a fantastic conclusion and certainly one of my favorite animated movies of the 2010s.

28.

Sebastian James and Ramez Silyan’s documentary Everybody’s Everything is one I wish got a lot more spotlight. This movie has a lot of heart honoring Lil Peep who sadly died in 2017, what makes this documentary so powerful is you see all these people in the documentary talking about how much of an amazing person he was and when the film does talk about his death you see the shock and pain from everyone involved, the movie does a fantastic job of showing how Lil Peep got his career stared as an artist. The film is also very well made, Terrance Malik was involved with this movie and you can definitely tell. Everybody’s Everything is a tribute to Lil Peep it told his story in such a beautiful way.

27.

Melina Matsoukas is going to have one strong career going forward, because Queen & Slim was really something special. The acting from Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith was powerful they gave such raw performances that were some standouts in 2019. I said in my review that this movie had tons of disturbing moments which it most definitely does, it’s not afraid to show how disturbing and graphic police brutality is. The writing feels Incredibly raw to the point where the characters in the film could be actual people you may know or meet. The cinematography, camera angles combined with the settings are masterful, it’s no surprise due to Melina Matsoukas mainly working on a ton of music videos before this film. This is one incredible film to start with as your directional debut (for movies) I’m excited to see what she does next!

26.

In 2018 we had Won’t You Be My Neighbor which was one of my favorites of that year, now in 2019 we have A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood directed by Marielle Heller. Tom Hanks knocks it out of the park has Fred Rogers not only does he look exactly like him but he captures what made Rogers so likable and how he was as a person, always wanting to help others, talk to others, discuss heavy issues and much more. Marielle Heller seriously did a fantastic job with this film she really shows how much care she put into this film and was knowledgeable as possible about Fred Rogers. There’s the emotional moments, the heartwarming moments and the powerful moments. This movie really shows how much Fred Rogers impacted a ton of people!

25.

Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man Homecoming) returns to the director’s chair for Spider-Man Far From Hone, something I was a bit worried about with this movie was Endgame a few months earlier and I was afraid this movie would be overshadowed by it or people’s expectations would incredibly high to the point where it would disappoint even if it was still very good. Luckily they did not happen, I won’t say too much because this one really speaks for itself, Tom Holland does a really great job as Spider-Man, Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio was a brilliant choice he brought everything he had to the character plus unlike a lot of MCU villains he got some really strong character development and had a motivation. The writing was some of the best of the MCU so far, it had a balance of jokes and serious moments which is something some MCU films have failed to do. This movie is everything a sequel should do, improve some stuff from the previous film in this case Homecoming.

24.

Julius Onah had one of the biggest comebacks in 2019, he went from directing as something as disappointing and terrible as Cloverfield Paradox to a really strong film like Luce. The movie has this “We Need To Talk About Kevin” Vibe and it really works, Kelvin Harrison Jr’s performance is fantastic. As well as Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, what really blows my mind is how well written this film was. It goes for a realistic tone and gives off this thrilling tone as well which it works extremely well. Onah really does a fantastic job directing, creating an atmosphere, and very powerful realistic scenes that will leave you surprised. If you haven’t checked it out yet go into the movie knowing as little as possible like I did, you won’t regret it!

23.

I really don’t think I need to comment much on Joker, Joaquin Phoenix kills it as Joker, he brings his own unique style to the character as well as the dread, and insanity he even expands on the character as well. The movie has this raw feeling with some very disturbing scenes, the film shows the darkest sides to Gotham city, it’s ugly (and I don’t mean in a bad way!) but at the same time it’s mesmerizing, the last 15-20 minutes are completely insanity, the movie is a ticking time bomb anything can happen. It shows just how demented and psychotic Arthur/Joker really is!

22.

I’ll keep this rather short, Avengers Endgame is a film that’s had been building up for many years and the result is just incredible, from the strong acting from everybody to the writing that is some of the best of the MCU. To having Thanos one of the best villains of the MCU if not THE best so far. The film just has so much that’s really strong, the film makes you care about the characters and really shows how far this franchise has come and will continue to do so!

21.

This movie narrowly misses the top 20 it was a very hard decision…however this movie is still one hell of a fantastic film! Harmony Korine has always been one of my favorite directors (Gummo, Spring Breakers and a few others) and he really does a fantastic job here! Matthew McConaughey gives easily one of his best performances, everyone in this movie is great heck even Snoop Dogg, the jokes work really well for the film. The cinematography is beautiful, the movie itself makes you care for the characters and it’s just a one of a kind experience! Absolutely well done go into this movie knowing as little as possible!

That will wrap up part four! Stay tuned for part 5 where we look at 20-11!

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (39-30)

Welcome back here is part three of my best list! Hope you enjoy!

39.

Max Minghella truly created something special with this movie, Teen Spirit is a beautiful film that has a lot of color and energy to it. Elle Fanning has always been one of my favorite actresses and she does a fantastic job here, between her version of “Dancing On My Own” to her acting it really gives the movie a lot of life. What this movie does a fantastic job with is two things direction and character development, Minghella really did his homework when it comes to both these things, they both feel very raw and quite powerful with some emotional moments. This is definitely what I call a hidden gem of 2019.

38.

Chad Stahelski’s John Wick Trilogy has been one of the best trilogies to come out in awhile (we are even getting a forth movie!) there really is not a whole for me to say here, just think of the other two movies and you got this one. Like the other two movies the action in this one is incredible, Keanu Reeves is fantastic in his role, the cinematography is beautifully done and it’s just an overall fun film but also a fantastic one!!

37.

The fact a movie by Rob Letterman the director of Shark Tale, Monsters vs Aliens and Goosebumps (okay Goosebumps is actually a fun movie) made it this high up on my best list let alone made the best list truly shows life is full of surprises. Anyway I have always been a huge fan of Pokemon and still am to this day, so when a movie was announced part of me was excited but the other part remained skeptical. Video game adaption movies have this horrible reputation….but this one did a fantastic job! The special effects for the Pokemon were freaky but also incredible it really shows how far special effects have come, the story is simple yet engaging. You can tell how much passion was put into this like they genuinely wanted this to be great plus they follow the source material extremely well! Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu was a genius movie he really steals the show, this is the movie Pokemon fans have been really waiting for! There’s a sequel in the works and there is a rumor of a Pokemon Red movie in the works as well!!

36.

Quentin Tarantino does not need an introduction, this guy has time and time again proved himself as a fantastic director. What can be said about this movie that hasn’t already been said, the movie is a love letter to the golden age of Hollywood. Brad Pitt is incredible in his role, the same can be said for Leonardo DiCaprio both of them really brought a lot of strength to their roles. The movie has a lot of comedic moments, there’s tons of references that engages the audience to point out and this feels like something Tarantino wants people to remember in the next 10 years. It’s fantastically well done movie that is really worth it!

35.

Sam Mendes is also a director who really doesn’t need an introduction between American Beauty, Skyfall, Revolutionary Road. Road to Perdition, Spectre and so on. The guy is really talented, anyway few things about 1917! The movie shows the horrors of what war is like and it does a really great job at it, both Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay give powerful performances. The fact this movie was done in one take is quite impressive what’s even more impressive is when you actually watch the movie and see how hard that is, but my absolute favorite thing about this film is Roger Deakins this guy is absolutely fantastic and he always will be. The cinematography is stunning and quite honestly some of the best of 2019.

34.

Here is the other movie Nickelodeon and Netflix teamed up and released, Joe Murray returns to the director’s chair those of you who don’t know he was the original director of the series Rocko’s Modern Life plus there’s another director Cosmo Segurson. For a 45 minute movie it had a lot to say and is just fantastic all the way through, I grew up with Rocko’s Modern Life but to see it being taken into a different direction is quite amazing. The movie talks about more modern topics such as LGBT which the way they do this is really brilliant and in a beautiful way as well. The theme in this movie is change and how we must come to face it at some point of our lives. This movie made me shed a tear or two, the writing is brilliant, the writing is beautiful and the movie itself is just amazing.

33.

How this movie remained underrated throughout 2019 I will never understand, this is a movie about the horrifying 2008 Mumbai attacks when a Islamic terrorist organization (10 people involved) carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks that lasted for FOUR DAYS across Mumbai. At least 174 people died, including the 9 attackers and more than 300 were wounded, the attack is one of the most horrifying moments of the 21st century. So making a movie about this horrifying moment would not be easy because this is a very serious topic but luckily Director Anthony Maras showed he can do it, what really gives this movie strength is how raw it really feels it shows the terror and pain the victims were going through. The acting and writing were top notch and the film itself is quite disturbing, mostly due to as I said before how raw it feels, it’s seriously hard to watch but a really important watch. The movie itself does a fantastic job of showing how horrifying this attack was. Please watch this movie if you haven’t I highly recommend it.

32.

Tatsuya Nagamine gave the best Dragon Ball movie to date! Dragon Ball was my childhood, I was obsessed with it as a kid and I still adore the franchise to this day, looking back a lot of the movies are very heavily flawed, but the ones of recently have been pretty good…but my god I was not ready for this! Broly’s character in the non canon movies had no personality, his reason of causing destruction was very idiotic and wasn’t written very well…that all changes with this movie because this Broly who is officially canon is the direct opposite. He’s given a huge backstory and some important character development that turns him into a very interesting character. The movie also gives development for other things such as King Vegeta and Paragus, the movie is beautifully animated and just well done film. I’m seriously excited to see what they do next!

31.

There really isn’t much for me to say about Todd Douglas Miller’s Apollo 11! It really speaks for itself it pretty much shows the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon led by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. The best thing about all this? There’s some never before seen footage and audio recordings, it’s such a beautiful moment in history and this movie really shows that. Which is what I truly think is what makes this film fantastic, it feels like a celebration of one of NASA’s most celebrated missions. It captures everyone’s determination, seeing the footage is quite powerful and it inspires you just by seeing how inspired everyone is!!

30.

Jordan Peele is quickly showing how incredible he is as a director, he started out with Get Out which is an incredible film and fast forward to 2019 and now there’s Us! What really makes me respect this film is Peele made sure to do his homework and had his cast watch certain movies before working on this film some include Martyrs (2008), Funny Games, The Birds, It Follows, The Shining and a few others! The acting is incredible but the standout is Lupita Nyong’o she gives one of the best performances of 2019, this movie captures the atmosphere, the suspense, and the audiences attention. The movie is creepy as hell and leaves you with a lot of questions on what the hell you just watched, Jordan Peele does a fantastic job of taking the horror genre to a new direction and I’m excited to see what he does next!

And that will conclude part three! Stay tuned for part four where we will dive into 29-21!

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (49-40)

49.

Alexandre Aja is a very interesting director, when he directs something good he does a VERY good job such as High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes (2006) however when he has also directed some not so good stuff such as Piranha (2010), Mirrors and Horns. Then there’s The 9th Life Of Louis Drax. However Crawl is a really strong movie, I had very little expectations going into it but was surprised to see how thrilling it actually was. For starters Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper are both fantastic, not only are the characters surprisingly written very well but you actually care about their characters too. Which can not be said for a lot of other killer Alligator/Crocodile movies, the movie is thrilling, dark and has some really good kills. As I said in my review this is pretty much The Shallows of Crocodile/Alligator movies.

48.

Sergio Pablos is a newcomer and very welcomed one as well, Klaus is truly one of the most beautiful films of 2019. The movie takes a very simple premise which is basically a Santa Claus origin story and does something completely different with it, it’s worth noting that Pablos was one of the animation designers for Treasure Planet. The chemistry between the characters is all there, the writing is beautifully done and the movie gives tons of emotional moments, this movie is going to be a Christmas classic in a few years and rightfully so. Because this is one of the best Christmas movies to come out in a very long time.

47.

Alita Battle Angel had a lot going against it before release, mostly due to two things…one the amount of delays was getting a lot of people worried and two Robert Rodriguez was in the director’s chair. Robert Rodriguez USE to be really great but recently he has not done a very good job. But this movie came along and brought the old Rodriguez back, this was also a big win for Anime Live Action movies other than this one I can name two others I liked which was Bleach and Ghost In The Shell. Alita Battle Angel is a beautiful film, the CGI is actually used really well and very well done. The character Alita herself is quite honestly one of the better written characters in a movie in 2019. Mostly due to many things such as the CGI capturing all of her emotions, which is quite unbelievable, the detail in the action scenes are really strong and the movie itself is an overall strong film.

46.

Issa Lopez’s Tigers Are Not Afraid really made me tear up, which is definitely what separates it from a lot of other horror films of 2019. The movie is depressing and quite sad but combines that with some horror elements that make it unique, the child actors do a fantastic job here. I was quite honestly surprised on how good the acting really was, it was some of the best performances of 2019. The movie also stays close to reality and doesn’t jump the shark which I really liked. I don’t want to say too much else because it’s much better going in knowing as little as possible for this one!

45.

Spoiler alert all of the Oscar best picture nominations made the list, we will get into all of them but for now let’s talk about JoJo Rabbit. Taika Waititi doesn’t need an introduction, this guy has shown time and time again that he’s one of the best directors working today, from What We Do In The Shadows, to Thor Ragnarok to Hunt for the Wilderpeople and now this movie. JoJo Rabbit is a true satire I explained in my review how these days people will literally just call anything satire even though it isn’t. However that’s a different case here what Waititi did here was genius he took a horrible horrible person like Hitler and turned him into a satire version while poking fun of him in very clever ways. The jokes in this movie are dark but the movie makes fun of them because of how easy they are to make.

44.

I’ve been using the word “surprise” quite a lot on this list so far, that’s because 2019 was honestly filled with a lot of great surprises Fighting With My Family, Crawl, Alita Battle Angel and well Rocketman. I was a bit worried for this movie, it started being advertised right around the time the whole Bohemian Rhapsody fiasco was going on during Oscar season. Bohemian Rhapsody was not a good movie and I was really worried Rocketman was going to suffer the same fate. However that’s not what happened, instead Rocketman is a huge blast. Dexter Fletcher (previously did Eddie The Eagle) created something really special, Taron Egerton did a fantastic job as Elton John he was completely believable as the legend, what surprised me the most however was the musical numbers. They could have easily went horribly wrong but they didn’t at all, they were full of energy, made you want to get out of your seat and dance and just downright entertaining. Definitely one of the best times I had in a theater in 2019

43.

If you can actually believe this…Wild Rose was directed by Tom Harper the same guy who directed that god awful Woman in Black sequel, what a comeback!! Like I said about The Last Black Man In San Francisco It’s really sad to see how little attention this movie got, Wild Rose is a very raw movie that shows Jessie Buckley’s talent and it’s just extraordinary. Her singing voice is beautiful and gives the viewer a ton of emotions, the music also helps certain scenes in this movie become very powerful. The movie is a lot like A Star Is Born and Her Smell which trust me when I say that’s a great thing!

42.

James Mangold has really had a really great directing career the last couple years Logan and Ford v Ferrari back to back is quite the accomplishment. I’ll keep this one brief, Matt Damon and Christian Bale are both fantastic in their roles, but what really makes this movie fantastic is the editing and racing scenes when combined you get some really insane scenes that must have been hard to capture. The sound is also fantastic you can hear how intense they are between the engines and the background. It almost feels like you are right there watching the race. Ford v Ferrari is a very well crafted film that deserves the praise it gets!

41.

Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers is a movie that could have easily been one of the worst films of 2019, that was not the case here! Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu really hit it out of the park here. Especially Jennifer Lopez it makes me really happy to see her finally land in a great role after many years being stuck in bad or mediocre projects. Scafaria’s direction is what really helps this movie, she drags you into the film and knows how to create characters and make them interesting. Combine that with some emotional moments and scenes that show much one is willing to do for the people they love and you got yourself a fantastic film!

40.

Speaking of actors and actresses making a comeback, here’s Craig Brewer’s Dolemite Is My Name! The same thing I said about Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers can be applied here only with Eddie Murphy, Murphy is an actor I really like but before this movie he was struggling for awhile! However he really proved that he still has it in him, because my goodness he is fantastic here. The movie has this very motivational feeling to it which really helps this movie, even when some scenes aren’t looking so good during the story there is always something positive going on. What this movie does a really great job in is the comedy, the timing is perfect and just an overall treat! Eddie Murphy has really grown as an actor and I’m really excited to see where he goes next!

This is the end of part 2 I’ll try and post part 3 as soon as I can where we will look at 39-30!

Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019 (60-50)

So I apologize this is a day late, I had to make some final decision making. Trust me when I say this making this list was HARD, 2019 for me was an overall strong year for movies (mostly towards the last quarter but we will get into that later on.) so keep in mind as this list goes on there was some tough decisions on where to place certain films anyway let’s go!!

60.

Andre Overdal has established himself as a very strong director (Autopsy Of Jane Doe and Trollhunter) when I heard they were doing a movie based on The Scary Stories books I was pretty excited and the result was very satisfying. It also helped that Guillermo Del Toro was heavily involved, even though it says he produced it you can feel his fingerprints all over it. The practical effects used for this movie was a brilliant idea, it really matched for what the movie was trying to go for. The cinematography really stood out and the format this movie chose I have to say was very smart. Instead of throwing twenty stories that would only be about 5-7 minutes long with dead ends they took a plot that wasn’t in any of the books and put some of the stories into that plot. This movie deserves a lot of credit for showing how much everyone involved actually cared about this project.

59.

Richard Jewell is a movie that is sent out there for one purpose only, to expose the disgusting narrative that the media did to this poor man who was 100% innocent. I already talked about how this movie was heavily inaccurate about Olivia Wilde’s character. However this movie I still feel stands very well, it would just be much higher up on the list. Anyway Kathy Bates is a huge standout she gives a heartbreaking performance as Bobi Jewell she really puts her heart and soul into it and it really works. The same can be said for Paul Walter Haunser he really does a fantastic job as Richard Jewell which I’ve said in my review gave me goosebumps at times, Sam Rockwell and John Hamm also bring a lot to the table as well. Something I feel like I didn’t explain enough in my review was how well written the movie was (minus some of the jokes) it feels very natural at times which I really liked. This is definitely one of Clint Eastwood’s best he’s done in awhile. Let’s see what he does next!

58.

I will never ever understand how or why this movie did not get as much spotlight as it did, this was one of the most beautiful looking movies of 2019! The Last Blackman From San Francisco really showcases some really well done acting and writing, Jonathan Majors and Danny Glover especially, newcomer director Joe Talbot does an absolute great job at giving this movie it’s own unique feel he captures the events of each scene and the character’s expressions. If it weren’t for the first acting dragging a bit a times I would place this much higher. However it still pains me to see this movie not get talked about as much as it should!

57.

Horse movies have a very strange tendency to be meaningful and extremely great, we have seen that in the past such as Lean On Pete and The Rider. The Mustang directed by Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre is no exception, the acting here felt very raw which is something I’ve noticed all these horse movies have! As far as the writing while it does have it’s missteps at times for the most part it brings a lot of emotion, the setting combined with the cinematography is brilliant and it’s just an overall very well directed film.

56.

I really don’t have much to add from what I’ve already said in my review but I’ll say a few things. The Souvenir is one of those movies that has a natural feel to it, which I feel is what makes this movie standout. As far as acting, writing and directing all of those are wonderfully done director Joanna Hogg does a spectacular job of creating characters the audience can care about, she also creates an atmosphere that is quite stunning as well. This is another hidden gem that highly recommend seeking out.

55.

Nickelodeon had a very interesting year in 2019, while they did have Playing With Fire which was garbage. They did have two movies they released with Netflix to make up for that. Invader Zim Enter The Florpus being one of them, Invader Zim was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid and it was just glorious seeing it again. There really isn’t much for me to add from the characters, animation and writing it was a home run in every category. The movie also stays true to the source material and knows what the audience wants, this is the result of when filmmakers care about the source material and add in their own elements Jenny Goldberg and Jake Wyatt are both first time film directors as well!

54.

Jasmin Mozzaffari’s Firecrackers is a movie I knew very little about, this movie is one of the main reasons why I give almost every movie to either surprise, empress or disappoint. This is a coming of age story that is handled really really well, it doesn’t show a lot of positives like some coming of age stories do, it shows a lot of negatives and struggles from each character. Michaela Kurimsky and Karena Evans are both fantastic in their roles, they give raw and emotional performances. The writing feels very realistic to the point where it could be relatable for some people, I think what shocked me the most was finding out that this is Jasmin Mozaffari’s directional debut, it really doesn’t feel like it. Which is a really good thing I can’t wait to see what she has in store next!

53.

Logan Marshall-Green showed how talented he was in 2018 with Upgrade, now in 2019 once again he shows off his talent! Adopt A Highway is a very straightforward movie that really delivers a lot, Ethan Hawks really gives one of his best performances here, he gives such a believable performance to the point where you feel like you are watching an actual person. As far as a plot this movie really doesn’t have one which in most cases would be a bad thing, but here I think it works quite well. Mostly because of how human it feels, it feels very natural and like life things happen which lead to some very powerful moments.

52.

Stephen Merchant’s Fighting with my Family was one of the biggest surprises of 2019, let me make this clear that I’m not a fan of wrestling. I don’t even know much about it outside of a few well known names Florence Pugh really sells it as Paige she does such a fantastic job the same can be said for Dwayne Johnson what gives him an advantage is gets to play himself! Merchant’s direction was really strong as well, it leads to some very heartwarming scenes that I did shed a tear or two, this movie is yet another example of why I give almost every movie a chance. This is the type of movie that I would not expect being on in my best list.

51.

It took them how many years to give us an actual really good modern Frankenstein movie? This one is directed by Larry Fessenden, to start with the movie has a handful of strong performances Alex Breaux being one of them, as I said in my review a common problem with a lot of these Frankenstein movies is a lot of the actors who play him really don’t add that much. But here Breaux really does add to the character and actually gives some very touching moments, the writing is also very touching as well! I think the best way to describe this movie is touching and human…it’s clear that Fessenden wanted this to be much different and make the Frankenstein monster be more human which he did succeed, this movie is not going to be for everyone. But it’s something to check out!

50.

I realize not everyone really liked Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer’s Pet Sematary. However I feel like a lot of people were way too harsh on this movie, in fact I thought this movie was genuinely really great!! Jete Laurence gave a genuinely creepy performance and was definitely one of the better creepy kid roles in a long time. The writing was also very solid, what this movie does a fantastic job in is the setting, atmosphere and exploring the sense of loss. It combines all three of those elements and makes it a genuinely creep ride, sure it might not be as terrifying as something like It Comes At Night or Hereditary but it’s still a wonderfully made movie! It’s worth noting both directors directed Starry Eyes which I feel they use a lot of the elements from that movie for Pet Sematary. This was definitely one of the better horror remakes in recent years and one of the better Stephen King adaptions!

With that we are finished with part 1!! Stay tuned for part 2 where will go over 49-40

Top 60 Worst Movies Of 2019 (10-1)

So here we are at the final 10, the absolute worst of the worst. It took me a few days to finalize the list because I want to make this as good as I can, so with that said let’s get into it.

10.

I felt so bad placing this movie on the list let alone the in the final 10, but it’s just honestly horrendous. I know the movie has its fans out there which is perfectly fine, but ugh first off the editing is horrible it really feels like the movie was not complete and just left there. Sarah Paulson feels way too cartoony, the pacing is DREADFUL with a run time that this movie has no business of having. My biggest problem with this movie is you feel every single painful minute of this movie it’s hard to sit through because of just how bad it really is, keep in mind this is by the same director who did Brooklyn. I put this at number 10 because at least this movie can be somewhat likable to some the same can’t be said for the rest.

9.

This might be a surprise to some of why Unplanned is not higher on the list, well at one point during the year it was the worst movie of 2019 but there are worse. Anyway the movie itself is by the same studio who made Gods Not Dead and such which that in itself should say why it’s on this list. The movie is horribly acted, written, directed and is a prime example of a movie that should have never gotten a theater release. The movie was one of the worst experiences of a movie that I saw in 2019 and I really hope nobody else has to suffer through this.

8.

Without comparing and contrasting Del Toro’s Hellboy movies and this pile of garbage let me simplify this. The movie is a prime example of trying to be edgy and completely failing at it in every category, this is also one of those movies that seem to think gore makes a movie. It also tries desperately to be like Deadpool but completely fails, it’s nowhere near as funny, charming or interesting as Deadpool was. The writing feels like it was written by some edgy teenager who was bored in class, it’s just so lazy, uninspired and downright painful. Even if the Ron Perlman movies didn’t exist this would still fall flat. It’s horribly put together mess that I can honestly say is one of the worst action movies of the 2010s.

7.

Yes this actually happened, somebody thought remaking Jacob’s Ladder was a great idea, it was directed by the guy who did “How It Ends” and “The Perfect Guy” so this movie was doomed from the start, this is a prime example of the people who worked on this movie not knowing anything about the original. It completely misses the point on what made the original so great, the acting is horrendous and gives some of the worst performances of 2019. What kills this movie is how the horror aspect is gone, the movie pretty much relied on jumpscares and it’s nowhere near as thrilling. It truly feels like the people who worked on this movie did a quick google search on Jacob’s Ladder and that was the end of it.

6.

Just reading the plot alone pretty much sums up why this movie is on the list, the movie is offensive, has no idea what it’s talking about like at all. The writing is basically what some adults think teens and 20 something year olds talk like, the movie has so many stereotypes and is inaccurate all the way. The acting is piss poor, the filming is uninspired and it’s just baffling that this was shown at Sundance.

5.

I’m going to skim through this one mostly because it’s widely known it’s terrible at this point and I’ve done a recent review on it, anyway the movie is downright terrible there’s no way around it. The CGI is some of the most ugly looking I’ve seen in a long time, the movie is nightmare fuel and not in a good way. The jokes completely miss and are just not funny at all, the rest of the writing feels like it was done in less then 5 seconds. I really don’t know what else to say I think the memes really sum up this movie the best.

4.

Haunting Of Sharon Tate is one of the main reasons why it took me a bit to wrap up the top 10 between this and the remaining 3 entries on the list it was hard to decide.

Anyway this movie is offensive it attempts to try the “changing history” narrative in this case what if Sharon Tate didn’t die. Which is already offensive enough but this movie goes as far as to take this tragic event and turn it into a horrendous and tasteless slasher movie. This movie is so offensively bad it’s just mind blowing how anyone thought this was a good idea, as for the acting, writing and directing? They are all complete garbage, Hillary Duff is a complete miscast and it feels so cheaply made and no amount of effort was put into this filth.

3.

Captive State could have been actually very interesting….but that was not the case…oh boy that wasn’t the case at all. The movie has some of the worst development in every single factor I’ve seen in the 2010s, the character development is non existent, there’s no motivations, no distinct personalities and no background information. Yet the movie desperately tries to get you to feel for them, the political bull crap it tries to shove in at the last minute completely fails, let me make this clear as day that I’m perfectly fine with a movie having politics in it. However you have to do it right or else you come off as that person who rants about politics but has no idea what you are talking about. Which this movie most certainly did NOT do a good job at it, the editing is choppy and feels incomplete. It’s a complete unorganized mess which makes this movie a painful experience that you wouldn’t wish for your greatest enemy to go through.

2.

Wounds is another movie that had loads of potential for starters it had a decent director Babak Anvari who directed “Under The Shadow) which was a fantastic film. But oh god this went horribly wrong, Armie Hammer is unbelievably bad in this movie, it’s like he woke up one day and forgot how to act it’s a complete embarrassment. The movie also has the guts to throw in Zazie Beetz and Dakota Johnson in the movie but they are barely in the movie but at least that saves them the embarrassment from this garbage. The writing is horrendous while I was watching this movie I had to keep in mind that this was intended to be taken seriously. What’s even worse is the movie tries at the last second to throw in a metaphor or symbolism, having your movie be a complete piece of crap and then throwing some bullcrap symbolism at the end does not justify how insultingly bad this is. This is a complete embarrassment to the Horror genre, this will for sure find it’s place on the top 250 worst movies of the 2010s list.

And finally number 1….

1.

This movie has been my worst movie of 2019 ever since it was released in April 2019, there were times where I was debating on pushing it and maybe putting Wounds. Captive State or Haunting Of Sharon Tate at number 1. But this movie is just unspeakably bad, first off where this movie came from is bottom of the barrel tier. This was originally a Harry Styles fanfiction….on WATTPAD! Yes that’s right Wattpad….this is what I meant when I said in my Slenderman review that Creepypastas or most internet fanfictions should not be turned into movies. The acting is HORRENDOUS, I can’t think of single time there was an emotion other than a blank face or crying. The writing is horrendous seeing how this was originally a Wattpad fanfiction it should be no surprise, it’s filled with a lot of crap that no actual person has actually said to another human. The plot is nonexistent in some cases some movies can get away with not having a plot but this is NOT one of those cases. It throws that right out the window and makes stuff up as it goes on, oh yeah and then the movie tries to get you to feel sorry for the main character who is a cheater….I could go on much longer but at the end of the day it’s just not worth it. This movie really shows how low some directors out there can go, it’s an complete embarrassment, one of the worst movies of the 2010s and the worst movie of 2019!

Hop you enjoyed my list! The next list will my Top 60 Best Movies Of 2019!!

Top 60 Worst Movies Of 2019 (20-11)

So those of you who have followed/known me for a very long time know that my bottom 20 is when things get horrendous. These are the movies that were insultingly bad. I made some tough decisions on where I should put each movie, anyway let’s begin.

20.

The first 47 Meters Down was a movie that I just did not get the love for but I can at least understand what that movie was trying to do. With 47 Meters Down Uncaged I just can’t, this is the very definition of a cashgrab, from the acting to the writing everything is horrible. It doesn’t help that the movie is filled to the brim with jumpscares….even including and I can’t stress this enough….a screaming fish. That alone puts it into the bottom 20, the characters are typical cliched horror movie characters with no common sense at all. What is good though is it seems everyone forgot about this movie which is definitely for the best.

19.

Keanu Reeves had an overall very good year in 2019, but here’s this terrible movie a lot of people seem to forget (understandably so) what could have actually been decent turns out to be a gigantic mess of a movie. First off the way this movie is edited and shot is downright disgusting, it’s so horrible to the point where it’s hard to watch did any of the makers of this movie pass film 101? But oh god the special effects….keep in mind this was a theater release…I have seen straight to DVD movies with much better special effects then this garbage. Then you have the writing which felt like it was written in under 10 minutes, how something this bad could fly in 2019 is pretty insane.

18.

Oh look another garbage sequel to a movie that wasn’t even good in the first place! Still to this day I’m very confused as to why this exists. What’s even weirder is the decisions they went with for this movie, it’s no longer found footage instead they went with a very cliched backstory for this “Charlie” character and tried to be way too serious with it, the acting is horrendous, the writing is complete garbage and the jumpscares are much more common than they were in the first movie.

17.

Do I really need to explain why this is so bad? If you can believe this Norm Of The North Keys To The Kingdom is in fact WORSE than the first movie, the movie tries to shove in two stories into this movie but completely fails at doing so, the writing is honestly some of the worst I’ve heard in animated movie in years, it makes you wonder who actually sat down and wrote this. Oh but we are not done with Norm yet…

16.

Yes that’s right they had the balls to release not one but TWO of these garbage movies in 2019 with another coming out this year and another in development. Somehow Kingsized Adventure ends being WORSE than Keys to the Kingdom, the characters are much more annoying, the writing is even worse like much much worse, there’s even a Shining reference that comes flat out of nowhere….Norm pretty much says to the villain “Here’s Normy” at that point I wanted to shut it off and forget this movie existed, oh yeah and the animation somehow looks even more cheap than the previous movie.

15.

Sextuplets is a new low for Marlon Wayne’s career, I thought A Haunted Mansion or some of those other movies were embarrassing…oh boy this movie. First off the jokes are just not funny, I’ve heard bad jokes in movies but this just had me sitting there thinking “what are they trying to accomplish?” The acting is the type of acting you would see in those spoof movies you know like Epic Movie or Disaster Movie…what’s even worse is this in someways is Jack and Jill levels tier levels of bad. The siblings are just as annoying as Jill is, just as unfunny and painful.

14.

You thought Doom (2005) was terrible? Well this is MUCH worse, this is a prime example of writers and directors not knowing a single thing about the source material. That’s this movie’s main problem, a movie based on Doom is not a bad idea on paper in fact with the right people it could be great! But what they went with is a horrible and cliched Sci-Fi movie and slapped the name Doom on the cover and hope it sells. Another huge problem is this movie went for a campy feel…I’m sorry but you can’t just change a video game’s entire atmosphere you are basically missing the whole point of Doom. This makes Doom (2005) look like a masterpiece stay away from this garbage..

13.

For the next 3 entries I put all of them very close together because they all feel like the exact same thing. Anyway Black Christmas is not what the title suggests, they completely change story which is completely fine but slapping the name Black Christmas feels like it it’s just trying to get money and that’s it. I feel like the best way to describe this movie’s writing and the movie overall is this “the writing feels like it was written with a bunch of twitter posts. As far as the politics in this movie, I’m perfectly fine with movies having politics. Films have had politics since the beginning of film, however this movie does not do a good job of it. Instead of trying to do it in a clever way, this movie is the equivalent of someone who did one of the two things….either someone saw a bunch of tweets tackling the topic this movie tries to say and thought that blending all those tweets into a movie script was a good idea. Or someone who says they know a lot about the issue but in reality spends 20+ hour on twitter ranting about the issue and not caring to do any other type of research. That’s my biggest issue with this movie it doesn’t tackle the topic in a heavy way, it uses the topic to excuse the bad writing which is not a successful film.” Which if you remember is something I said in my review and I 100% still stand by that, lastly nobody asked for another Black Christmas movie. Go watch the original and stay away from this movie.

12.

Countdown is another horror movie that panders to the teen audience, the acting writing and are both complete garbage with no substance whatsoever. The humor this movie tries to shove down the audience’s throat is painful and not funny at the slightest and the whole “app predicting your death” craze has died out, back in the early 2010s it was popular but in 2019 it just wasn’t popular so what’s the point? The characters are predictable and have no character development like at all finally the movie is filled with you guessed it jumpscares!!

11.

The same stuff I said about Countdown can be applied here, it’s clearly only going for the teen audience. It’s pretty much a garbage version of Final Destination plus without the gore or entertainment value which leaves this movie pretty pointless, the acting, writing, direction everything is at the lowest common denominator. I can definitely see why this took so long to release, it’s a complete waste of space and is a disgrace to horror in general…

Stay tuned for the final part where we look at the final 10 (10-1) what will be the worst movie of 2019?? Stay tuned to find out!!
