The lives of four adults, Émilie, Camille, Nora and Amber, who are friends and sometimes lovers.
Paris, 13th District is definitely an interesting one, it takes a look at four adults Émille, Camille, Nora and Amber and their thoughts, feelings, actions and so on. The acting is quite fantastic here the cast really puts their all into the performances which leads to several beautiful moments, the black and white cinematography is absolutely beautiful and really compliments this film well. Especially with the more intimate moments, the writing dives quite well into the characters and shows the flaws of them as well. The direction from Jacques Audiard is also quite great as well, the story is very well told and has a lot of the filming tell the story at times which is pretty clever. I definitely recommend checking this one out!
Paris, 13th District is available on all VOD Platforms.
A virus spreads throughout the city, causing the infected to become vicious hunters. Iris and her daughter become caught in the massacre, discovering 32-second periods of calm before each attack.
Virus 32 definitely tries to do something different with the zombie genre (even though it’s really not zombies it’s just people that are infected and they go crazy), having that said the movie doesn’t do enough to draw the viewer in. The filming is actually quite nice with several different camera angles that give certain shots more to work with and compliment the movie, the acting is also not bad either there were some genuinely good performances here that worked well. It just comes down to the writing not being strong enough to carry the rest of the movie, definitely would have been more interesting as a short film.
Prince Amleth is on the verge of becoming a man when his father is brutally murdered by his uncle, who kidnaps the boy’s mother. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who raids Slavic villages. He soon meets a seeress who reminds him of his vow — save his mother, kill his uncle, avenge his father.
Robert Eggers continues to show he can take what seems like straightforward concepts but adds so much to it that his films become an experience. The Witch and The Lighthouse were some of the best films of the 2010s and highlight a completely different type of horror as well. The Northman has a lot of elements that The Witch and The Lighthouse did but also has it’s own identity as well, for starters the film is a lot bigger with it’s scale plus the world itself is completely massive. Yet it still feels focused on a few characters like Eggers’s previous films, which is truly incredible. The performances are all fantastic here Alexander Skarsgård is phenomenal in the leading role who plays a Viking that seeks revenge, who also gets a ton of character development. The Northman is one of those films where even the little details matter quite a lot because they add so much to the film and give it so much personality and character, Anya Taylor-Joy is absolutely incredible here and continues to show that she’s one of the best actresses working today. Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe are both terrifyingly great, there’s handful of scenes where they are terrifying and add to the atmosphere of the film. It was also great to see Björk in another film again, the atmosphere is masterfully done not only does it have a brutal type atmosphere where the gore and kills are incredibly raw. But there’s plenty of horror in the atmosphere, Willem Dafoe is only in the film for a few scenes but those scenes absolutely stick with you throughout the film, so it really adds a haunting type atmosphere. The film is also hauntingly beautiful it’s an absolutely well shot film that truly feels massive with lots to explore in each scene, the writing is completely well done and really takes a straightforward revenge type story and pushes it into something quite terrifying but beautiful at the same time. It comes down to how well presented the story was told and Eggers absolutely nails it every time when it comes to presentation. Sure the revenge story might not seem like anything new but the execution, writing, acting, filming and presentation all make it truly something special and engaging. Lastly there’s the direction which like the rest of the film is masterfully done, Robert Eggers truly hit it out of the park in all categories and created something unique when it comes to how these types of stories are presented, overall The Northman is a film I highly recommend checking out as it is one of the best films of the year so far!
Leonard is an English tailor who makes suits on London’s famous Savile Row. He must outsmart a dangerous group of criminals to survive a fateful night.
The Outfit is an interesting little movie that keeps the viewer guessing on which direction it’s going, first and foremost the acting all around is really strong. Especially from Mark Rylance who really does a fantastic job of keeping the viewer in the film, the one location thriller element really works here as well. It’s one of my favorite types of elements or style that a film can do and The Outfit makes sure to build upon that and add even more to it. As I said before the movie does a really good job of making the viewer keep guessing which direction it’s going to go, just when you think you have figured the film out it goes into a completely different direction. The writing and direction are both quite fantastic and compliment each other beautifully, the film becomes an old fashion crime thriller that is very effective due to the pacing and performances. Graham Moore really understands the genre quite well he took something that has been done before but went in many different directions, go into this one knowing as little as possible. One of the biggest surprises so far this year.
As an experienced climber ascends Mount Washington, she turns back before she reaches the summit as a huge blizzard approaches. However, on her way down, she encounters a stranded man and takes it upon herself to get them both down the mountain before nightfall arrives and they succumb to the elements.
Infinite Storm is definitely one of the most interesting survival movies to come out recently, for starters Naomi Watts and Billy Howle both give really strong performances and at times quite hard hitting ones as well. The movie is beautifully shot and the final moments of the movie are pretty strong as well, it was a very solid way to wrap up the movie and gives some emotional moments as well. The main issue with Infinite Storm is the flashback scenes really get in the way of the situation, the movie doesn’t do enough to connect the audience with Pam Bales or John which is why those final few scenes are far better. You start to get some real connection and interest of Pam Bales’s situation, the acting is at least great to warrant a watch and I do think there was am attempt to make this standout from a lot of survival movies. But this is just another case of the actual true story being far more interesting than the film, despite the unsuccessful parts of the movie I don’t think it’s a bad movie. It’s very well made and very well acted that is at least a bit different from some other survival movies, but this is one I don’t think I’ll ever revisit.
After being sent to a sinister religious retreat by their stepfather, two siblings fight to escape in order to save their mother from harm’s way.
I definitely think there’s something to be said about the themes in Children Of Sin, such as the horrors of conversion therapy the problem however is the execution. The first bit of the movie strangely plays out as a laughably bad movie while the rest of the movie takes itself seriously, the movie is definitely held back due to budgetary reasons and the acting is just not great. Every once and awhile there will be a half decent performance but that’s far and few in between, however the movie does keep your interest despite the huge flaws. There’s definitely some messaging here that could have worked quite well had this been better put together.
Children Of Sin releases tomorrow on all VOD Platforms.
Unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, actor Nick Cage accepts a $1 million offer to attend a wealthy fan’s birthday party. Things take a wildly unexpected turn when a CIA operative recruits Cage for an unusual mission. Taking on the role of a lifetime, he soon finds himself channeling his most iconic and beloved characters to save himself and his loved ones.
The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent is a huge celebration of Nicolas Cage, it’s definitely the type of film that gives a honest and fitting tribute to a beloved actor. What’s most important is that Cage himself seems like he’s having a blast throughout the whole film, which leads to his energetic performance that is by far one of the best so far this year. The rest of the cast do an excellent job as well, particularly Pedro Pascal who gives quite a few laughs. The film is very meta and has quite a few Nicolas Cage references that blend in well with one another to create such a bizarre film that’s fun from beginning to end, with that said there isn’t as much humor as you would expect but that’s certainly not a bad thing. As it does give the film breathing room to build up to the next collection of jokes, the film is also a nice letter to film in general. It has a lot of nice references, jokes and so on that a lot of fans of film will have good laugh at, what ultimately ties the film together is Nicolas Cage himself. This is a film where only Cage could make this work and make it this hilarious, it has this wholesome, comedic and bizarre energy to it that only Cage can give. It’s a Nicolas Cage film built from the ground up and it’s one hell of an accomplishment, if your a fan of Nicolas Cage I highly recommend giving this one a watch!!!
The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent will be released Friday in theaters!
A broke student who plays an obscure 1980s survival computer game in pursuit of an unclaimed $100,000 prize. After a series of unexpectedly terrifying moments, she soon realises she’s no longer playing for the money, but for her own life.
Choose Or Die is a prime example of taking a concept and having piss poor execution, outside of Asa Butterfield and Lola Evans performances and their awkward chemistry between one another. The rest of the movie feels completely manufactured and doesn’t try make a thrilling atmosphere, it plays out a lot like a teen horror movies like Truth or Dare (2018) rather than go for suspense or have a great setup it goes for the bare minimum with it’s premise and comes off incredibly goofy. What really hurts Choose Or Die is the writing, between the shoehorned romance of the characters, the nonexistent character development and the lack of payoff with the kills. The movie does very little to justify it’s build up to the third act which is a whole other problem. The third act has no idea what it want’s to be, it’s way too silly to be taken seriously and it certainly isn’t in the campy type feel or a case where it could be laughably bad. There’s some fine enough visuals here and there but they are barely given enough time to shine due to the pacing, I definitely think Choose Or Die would have been far more successful as a short film or mini-series. There’s just not enough here to create a full narrative without shoehorning underdeveloped elements or resulting to very poor writing.

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is a sequel to the 2014/2015 film Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead, I always heard about talks about a sequel but didn’t know if it was going to actually happen or not. The first movie was a decent enough zombie movie having a Mad Max Fury Road type feel to it combined with some really solid gore as well. Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is pretty much the same sort of deal, only that this one adds more characters which is fine but very unnecessary given that the new characters really don’t get a lot of development. The gore is once again really strong and the style the movie goes for is very solid, the movie strangely takes a bit to get going which is questionable but luckily it doesn’t take long before it gets to the good moments. The acting is honestly not as bad as you think it would be, the cast do commit to their roles and are quite fun it’s just a shame the characters themselves aren’t that interesting. Overall Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is a very straightforward sequel that while doesn’t do anything brand new, it at least knows what’s it set out to do. If you liked the first movie you will like this one.
Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is available on all VOD Platforms.
