Host was something I was definitely not expecting at all, don’t let the running time of 56 minutes fool you. This movie is VERY effective, Host is one of those social media horror movies like Unfriended and it’s sequel. Host immediately starts off with a very mysterious atmosphere that while you do know something is going to happen it still creeps you out, as the movie progresses the atmosphere gets stronger and stronger to the point where it gets terrifying. A lot of this has to do with two major things, first the very raw performances…the performances all feel extremely believable and doesn’t feel scripted at all, combine that with the atmosphere and you get some terrifying results. The second reason the atmosphere gets stronger throughout the film is the realistic approach mostly due to the characters actually using Zoom during quarantine. Which when the whole COVID pandemic first started a lot of people were using Zoom heck some people are still in quarantine and using Zoom! So combine all of that and you get a pretty terrifying film that is very effective in every single way possible, it’s honestly crazy how a 56 minute film can be much more effective then a 2 hour blockbuster…I don’t want to give much else away, see this movie as soon as you can!
