Birds Of Prey (2020)

After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

Let’s just jump right to it, Birds Of Prey is seriously what Suicide Squad should have been. First off the casting was perfect Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn once again was brilliant, Rose Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (she was adorable) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell were all really great! Ewan McGregor heavily reminded me of Norman Osborne from the Sam Rami movies and trust me that’s a good thing! The action scenes were seriously well done, they felt a lot like John Wick which is great. The action was fast paced and filmed wonderfully, the direction from Cathy Yan was done really well. The jokes were a lot of fun, they were genuinely funny and it got a handful of laughs out of me. Black Mask as a villain was pretty interesting, he was absolutely bonkers which actually worked for what this movie was trying to go for, the only thing I would say I wish they could have done was give Huntress and Black Canary a bit more screentime, especially Huntress. I really enjoyed her backstory and would love to see these characters evolve more. I think what Cathy Yan succeeded most with this movie is the world building, she does a good job of establishing where it’s taking place and what’s going on. Harley Quinn’s character is also done very well and actually a really fun character! I don’t want to say too much more because I don’t want to spoil it, but overall this movie is a lot of fun and a genuinely strong movie. It’s some of the most fun I’ve had in a theater in awhile, definitely recommend giving this one a go!!

9/10 A
